Lucy and David are in a property predicament: they need a new family home but can't find anything that fits their family's diverse requirements. They have 3 teenage children and David has a step-son who stays with them at weekends. Lucy is a journalist who works from home and needs space away from the bustle of family life, and company executive David also often works from home and needs a dedicated office space within the family home. The kids all want their own rooms with space for laptops, homework desks and hanging out with friends.

Sound familiar? The fact is that the average nuclear family of 2.4 children no longer exists. Latest figures from the Office of National Statistics reveal that the average marriage now lasts only 11.7 years, meaning that many of us have step-children like David and Lucy. The impact of the credit crunch on young people hasn't helped parents either with many staying on in the family home into their mid-twenties or returning to live at home after university. On top of this, increased life expectancy means that elderly parents are returning to live with children in their family homes. So how can parents cope with this ever extending family tree?

Lucy and David found their solution in a large, family home at Oaks Hamlet on Kings Hill, near West Malling in Kent. The spacious ground floor layout of the Penshurst property in Kings Hill has enough room for the whole family to spread out comfortably and a separate office for when David works from the family home. Upstairs there are 5 bedrooms to accommodate children and step-children, but what really sold the Kings Hill property to Lucy and David was the huge, bright studio room over the garage. Elsewhere at the large homes of Oaks Hamlet, these studio rooms have been used as teenage studio flats, home gyms or even home cinemas. For Lucy it gives her the space away from the family home to work in peace and quiet and the added benefit of a home office which is separate from family life.

There are currently a limited number of studio rooms available with 3 and 5 bedroom Kings Hill properties. Come down to Oaks Hamlet at Kings Hill in Kent and see how a studio could solve your space requirements.
